Micro-Link Extensions
Strand Attachment Family
Also known as: I-Tip Extensions
Illustration -- About our illustrations
Micro-Link Extensions attach individual extension strands with small beads or rings. They offer a strand-by-strand alternative to tape panels, fused bonds and sewn wefts; the exact tip and bead system should be confirmed with the fitter.
Distinguishing characteristics
A bead secures the extension to a selected section of natural hair. A documented I-tip system uses bead attachment without heat or adhesive at that attachment step. Micro-link is sometimes used more broadly, so clarify whether the proposal is individual strands or a beaded weft row.
Advantages
Allows individual placement and a heat-free, adhesive-free attachment step in an appropriate bead system. Some products can be repositioned under their manufacturer's instructions.
Considerations
Beads require upkeep and may be noticeable in certain parts or updos. Strand weight and placement still matter; avoiding glue does not eliminate traction risk.
Warning signs
Have painful or rubbing beads adjusted. A persistent rash, sores, breakage at attachments or thinning needs professional or medical assessment.
Preparation
Discuss density, scalp comfort, prior metal reactions and the blend between natural and added hair. Ask for the bead material and lining, extension tip, fitting method and planned checks. Choose an installer trained in that particular system.
Daily Care
Support the attachments when brushing. Separate strands according to the fitter's instructions and report slipping beads or tangles near regrowth instead of squeezing a bead with household tools.
Night Care
Keep the lengths loosely arranged and the attachment areas dry. Avoid tying the hair into a position that presses a row of beads into the scalp.
Washing
Follow the system's cleanser and product directions. Clean between attachment points and rinse well; do not assume instructions for a glued bond apply to a bead.
Scalp Care
Monitor where beads touch or rub. Tell the fitter about a new rash or persistent itching, especially with a history of reactions to metals.
Refreshing
Keep the professional adjustment schedule chosen for the installed system. Visible regrowth, slipping and tangling warrant a check rather than repeated home tightening.
Removal
Have beads opened and strands released using the correct professional tools. Pulling the tip through a closed bead can pull on the supporting hair.
Styling tips
Review your usual parting and gathered styles before individual attachment points are placed. Ask the fitter to demonstrate gentle brushing around the beads and how to handle the lengths without tugging on the root connections. Keep the bead system's product instructions with your care plan.

Micro-Link Extensions: Strand-by-Strand Attachment, No Glue, No Heat, No Braid
Micro-Link (also I-Tip or "cold fusion") extensions attach individual small sections of extension hair to individual strands of natural hair using a small silicone-lined metal bead or ring, crimped closed with pliers -- no adhesive, no heat, and no braided or cornrowed base. This is a distinct attachment mechanism from every weave/braid style already in this catalog.
FAQs
- Can I pull out a slipping strand?
Do not pull it through a closed bead. Arrange a check and professional release or refit so the attachment is handled without dragging on the supporting hair.
Related styles
- Fusion Extensions -- Both are Strand Attachment Family siblings that attach individual sections of extension hair directly to individual sections of natural hair, strand by strand, with no braided or cornrowed base -- differing only in bonding mechanism (heat-fused keratin vs. a crimped metal bead/ring).
