Halo Braid
Crown & Wrap Family
Also known as: Crown Braid
Illustration -- About our illustrations
A halo braid is a single braid that circles the head like a crown, following the hairline or sitting just behind it. It can be braided directly on the scalp or made as a plait and pinned in place, with your own hair or with extensions for extra length and thickness.
Distinguishing characteristics
One continuous braid encircles the head, and its tail is tucked into the starting point so the ring looks unbroken. Natural-hair versions rely on your own length; extension versions add hair to make the braid fuller and longer than your hair alone allows.
Advantages
An elegant, polished look for weddings, events and work. Can be done on many hair lengths, especially with extensions.
Considerations
Usually a short-term style. Pins and a tight hairline can cause discomfort if over-secured.
Warning signs
Headaches, soreness at pin points or tension along the hairline mean it is too tight; loosen it.
Preparation
Stretched, detangled hair gives the smoothest result. Decide whether you want the braid at the hairline or set back, and whether to add extension hair or colour.
Daily Care
Avoid scratching under the braid. Smooth flyaways with a little gel or mousse.
Night Care
Protect the braid with a satin scarf so the ring keeps its shape.
Washing
This is a short-term style. If you keep it in for more than a few days, cleanse the scalp gently with diluted shampoo and dry thoroughly.
Scalp Care
Check the hairline for tightness, especially at the start and end of the braid where pins or extensions are anchored.
Refreshing
Re-pin any loose sections and smooth the edges with a soft brush.
Removal
Remove pins, unbraid from the tail and detangle gently.
Styling tips
Coloured extensions such as blonde or burgundy make the ring stand out. Leave a few face-framing pieces out for a softer look, or add pearls or pins for formal occasions.

The Halo Braid as a Continuous Crown-Wrap Construction
The halo braid is built as a single continuous braid wrapped around the head like a crown, pinned in place -- a distinct construction from any style simply gathered upward into a ponytail or bun after being built down, which is why this catalog treats it as its own style rather than an arrangement of another one. It can be built on natural hair alone or incorporate braiding extensions for length and fullness.
